The Secure Act just passed the House of Representatives.
The problem is, it probably won’t secure your retirement for you if you’re over 40.
We can help though, with our Mailbox Millionaire System.
On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the most sweeping retirement reform bill they’ve considered in more than a decade.
Among its provisions, the Secure Act:
- Repeals the maximum age for traditional IRA contributions
- Increases the required minimum distribution age for retirement accounts to 72
- Allows long-term part-time workers to participate in 401(k) plans
- Allows more annuities to be offered in 401(k)s
The bill still has to get through the Senate before it hits the president’s desk, but it’s widely expected to pass.
The problem is, the Secure Act probably doesn’t do you much good. It’s mostly geared towards younger workers. It also aims to make it cheaper and easier for small businesses to offer 401(k) plans.
But that doesn’t change the fact that one in five American adults have nothing saved for retirement or emergencies. In fact, more than one-third of Americans couldn’t come up with $400 in an emergency.
Even if you could come up with $400 in a pinch, odds are you still don’t have enough in retirement savings to actually be able to retire.
The American Association of Retired Persons says you should have at least $1.5 million in retirement savings for a comfortable retirement.
A study by the Wall Street Journal last year found that of people between the ages of 55 and 70, 40% of them don’t have enough retirement savings to get through retirement.
Most folks seem to realize their golden years probably won’t be so golden – only 36% of non-retired adults think their retirement savings is on track. And 25% don’t have any retirement savings at all.
Since you’re reading this and have an interest in investing, you probably aren’t one of the 25% who have nothing saved at all.
But there’s a very good chance you haven’t saved enough.
The good news is we can help you reach your goal of a truly golden retirement.
