It seems fitting that some of the largest publicly traded media conglomerates in the world are reporting fourth-quarter earnings in the days after America’s biggest media event.
The Super Bowl is over, with the Baltimore Ravens hanging on to a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in thrilling fashion last night. Earnings season, however, continues to chug along, with a number of big-name media companies set to report this week.
Disney (NYSE: DIS), News Corp. (NASDAQ: NWS) and Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) all hand in their progress reports this week. CBS (NYSE: CBS), the network that aired last night’s Super Bowl, releases its fourth-quarter earnings next week.
Another sector that’s fittingly heavy on earnings this week is fast food companies. It seems appropriate that the likes of Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM) and Chipotle (NYSE: CMG) report earnings just days after Americans stuff themselves with all kinds of fatty treats while watching the Super Bowl.
