President Biden’s White House pressured Facebook to censor content.
The White House repeatedly requested that Facebook and Instagram to take down “misinformation” related to Covid.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirms this in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan yesterday.
On Covid censorship…
“In 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire.
I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it.”
Yet it wasn’t just Covid censorship.
In the weeks before the 2020 presidential election…
The FBI warned Facebook of potential Russian disinformation about the Biden family business with foreign companies.
In October 2020 the New York Post had published emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop.
These emails showed that Hunter Biden was using his father’s position as Vice President to get millions in “consulting fees” from foreign companies.
Once the story was out the FBI pressured Facebook to suppress that news on its platforms.
Here’s Zuckerberg on the Hunter Biden laptop censorship…
“The FBI warned us about a potential Russian disinformation operation about the Biden family and Burisma in the lead up to the 2020 election.
When we saw a New York Post story reporting on corruption allegations involving then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s family, we sent that story to fact-checkers for review and temporarily demoted it while waiting for a reply.
It’s since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in retrospect, we shouldn’t have demoted the story.”
Republican critics argue that suppressing this story allowed Biden to beat Trump in the 2020 election.
Zuckerberg’s letter to Congress confirms that we already know…
The U.S. government is proactively trying to limit free speech in America.
This is the same type of censorship we saw with the Twitter files. And it’s the same type of censorship that was brought before the Supreme Court earlier this year.
The good news is that Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk have made it clear…
Facebook, Instagram and X (Twittter) will no longer implement the censorship requests from the U.S. government.
Every American should be upset about government censorship of free speech.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican.
