Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is investing $650 million…
In a new 1,200-acre data center in Pennsylvania.
This location is ideal because it gives Amazon access to clean and cheap electricity.
This new data center will serve Amazon Web Services.
Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are known as hyperscalers.
They provide cloud computing solutions that allow clients to scale up their tech infrastructure on the fly.
These companies are racing to build out more data centers.
That’s because new Artificial Intelligence applications require much more computing power.
This is forcing them to upgrade existing facilities. And invest billions in new facilities.
These data centers require vast amounts of electricity.
Amazon and others are committed to using clean energy.
“Amazon set an ambitious goal to reach net-zero carbon by 2040—ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
We’re on a path to power our operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025,” according to an Amazon spokesperson.
This deal does exactly that.
Amazon will acquire a 960-megawatt data center.
The deal also gives Amazon direct access to clean and cheap electricity for the next 30-years.
Here’s the important takeaway…
AI is driving a huge investment in data centers around the world.
These new data centers will use huge amounts of electricity.
