Another week, another record finish for U.S. markets.
The S&P 500 closed at a record 1,759.77, closing Friday with a flourish to finish the week up 0.8%. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial crossed the 15,500 mark.
A week free of government shutdown or debt ceiling worries pushed volatility down to a two-month low. Where the market goes from here could depend on the strength of next week’s earnings.
A number of big-name companies report third-quarter results next week. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) kicks things off after the bell on Monday, hoping to sustain its recent rebound. The second-largest company in the world, Exxon (NYSE: XOM), reports on Thursday.
Other intriguing earnings reports next week include Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), Chevron (NYSE: CVX) and Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX).
