Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg want to fight.
Literally.
The Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) founder plans to fight the Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) founder.
The billionaire tech CEOs plan to fight at the Ultimate Fighting Championship arena – known as the Vegas Octagon.
The latest spat between Musk and Zuckerberg started last week.
Meta is planning to launch a micro blogging service to compete with Twitter. And Elon isn’t too happy with the new competition.
So, he went to Twitter to criticize Zuck’s plans:
“I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.”
And then he invited him to a fight…
Zuckerberg responded…
“Send me location.”
So, who could be expected to win the fight?
Sportsbooks currently show Zuckerberg as the likely winner.
The betting odds suggest that Zuckerberg has an 83% chance of winning the fight.
One reason is that Zuckerberg recently competed in a jiu jitsu tournament. And he won gold and silver metals at the competition.
Musk is 51 years old, 6’1 and weighs 187 pounds. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg is 39 years old, 5’7 and weighs 154 pounds.
In mix martial arts competitions – weight can be an advantage. However, Zuckerberg is younger and his martial arts training is expected to give him a leg up on Musk.
So, Why Are These Billionaires Fighting?
The whole thing sounds like two insecure kids in junior high school – agreeing to a fist fight after school.
It seems like Zuckerberg is working to repair his damaged reputation.
The Meta CEO has been under intense criticism for years. There was the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the Facebook whistleblower, the pivot to the metaverse at the peak of the stock market, and then laying off over 20% of its employees.
Zuck has been largely disliked – and there’s a lot of distrust and criticism of Facebook and Instagram. And it seems like he’s trying improve his personal brand.
Meanwhile, Musk is always up for picking a fight on Twitter. And so, it’s no surprise that he’s provoking Zuckerberg and inviting him to a fight.
The question remains – is this simply a PR stunt to get attention? Or are the two tech stock CEOs heading to the cage in Las Vegas?
UFC president Dana White says that he’s in discussion with Musk and Zuckerberg to organize a fight. He says that both are “dead serious.”
“This would be the biggest fight ever in the history of the world. It would break all pay-per-view records,” according to White.
Right now, the Musk versus Zuckerberg fight remains up in the air.
