Elon Musk has made some bold bets.
Though he is only 43, Musk has already created the market for digital-payments, taken on the entire auto industry, is attempting to reshape the global energy portfolio and wants to venture into space where no one has ever before ventured.
When you consider his businesses and his ideas as a whole, you can begin to understand the Elon Musk future – the future according to one of the world’s most influential businessmen.
First some history.
He first rose to fame in his role with PayPal. Musk’s own online payment system merged with PayPal in 2000. When eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) bought the company in 2002, Musk was PayPal’s largest shareholder. His 11.7% stake in the company paid off handsomely, leaving Musk with $165 million.
He then founded SpaceX, a private company dedicated to commercial space travel and, eventually, colonizing other countries. He continues to hold the positions of CEO and CTO.
Two years later Musk became involved with Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA). His role with the company started with his first-round investment but quickly grew. Today he is generally referred to as a co-founder of Tesla. Musk became CEO and Chief Product Architect in 2008 during the financial crisis. He still holds both positions today.
His stake in Tesla is huge.
Musk owns over 28 million shares of the electric automaker, roughly 23% of the company. His stake in Tesla alone is worth over $6.2 billion.
Elon Musk was also instrumental to the founding of SolarCity (Nasdaq: SCTY) and helped his cousins launch the company. He continues to help his cousins run the company, serving as the Chairman of SolarCity. He also holds around 23% of its shares roughly $1.2 billion of SolarCity’s shares.
Just to recap, Elon Musk is the CEO and CTO of SpaceX, the Chairman of SolarCity and the Chairman, CEO and Chief Product Architect of Tesla.
Now let’s connect the dots.
It would seem that Elon Musk believes in a future where we harness the energy of the sun, store it in batteries and then use it to power our lives. Then, as we outgrow planet earth, we will explore and colonize others.
Indeed, writing about the Elon Musk future makes me feel like a science-fiction writer. But this isn’t fiction, this is what Elon Musk has set out to do.
Musk’s SolarCity wants to install and finance the world’s solar panels.
His Tesla wants to produce the batteries to store the power we’ll use to power our lives. The company is already working on a ‘gigafactory’ to build the batteries and is already producing the first electric car to gain mainstream acceptance.
And soon, Musk’s SpaceX will launch missions to explore and colonize other planets.
There are very few dreamers like Elon Musk in the world today. The serial entrepreneur is taking on energy, transportation and ultimate survival – some of the human race’s biggest challenges.
When you think about it, Musk’s vision of a solar-powered electric-driven world makes total sense. And I fully believe in the Elon Musk future. Shares of Tesla and SolarCity are up around 84% and 65% respectively over the past year, so I know I’m not the only one who believes in the Elon Musk future. What do you think?
Jay Taylor personally owns shares of SolarCity.
The New American Prius is a Pick Up Truck
Yes. That’s right. A bigger, better, beefier vehicle is rolling off the assembly line – an American truck that’s actually more efficient than the Toyota Prius. Hey, it can even tow five of them. And it’s not a wimpy hybrid. It’s a 302hp heavy-duty beast. Yet, it only costs around $15 bucks to fill up! And you can travel 800 miles on one tank. That’s why we call it the “American Prius.” ONLY ONE COMPANY has the breakthrough technology for building this truck. And now you can share in their massive profits.
